When we think of veterinarians, we often think about those that treat pets and large animals, but there are also vets who work to keep places safe for animals. Have You Ever Been to the Zoo? introduces Dr. Annette Chapman’s work as a regulatory veterinarian, beginning with her observation of an injured giraffe named Gerald. As a child in Washington D.C. Annette was drawn to Alabama both by her grandparents and eventually Tuskegee’s College of Veterinary Medicine. The book follows Dr. Chapman’s story from the days of doing science experiments with her grandfather to barrel racing on horseback to taking time to inspire the next generation of scientists today.
